I want to answer a question a client asked me recently: "What keeps you drawn to fitness?"
Fitness isn't just about aesthetics; it's a personal journey that has significantly shaped my life. Reflecting back, fitness helped me navigate through some of the darkest moments of my teenage years.
Struggling with chronic acne, I felt visibly marked and socially isolated. Moreover, growing up in the inner city, a sense of being trapped in the same environment loomed over me, as if a real future was beyond my grasp.
I believe for many, just like for me, fitness introduced me to the world of personal development and self-improvement. It taught me a crucial life lesson: I had control over my life.
Before discovering fitness, I often felt powerless. But as I started taking control of my physical health, I realized that change was possible, and this control was empowering.
My view of fitness extends beyond the traditional concepts of sets and reps. I believe I’d quickly succumb to burnout if my focus were limited to these aspects alone. Instead, I view fitness as a holistic practice. It merges physical training, gratitude, mindfulness, and maintaining a positive mindset. This approach allows us to touch upon and positively impact our physical well-being and emotional, mental, and social wellness.
By incorporating these elements into our fitness journey, we create an enriching and unique experience. It's an opportunity to explore and develop various aspects of our lives, making the process more engaging and enjoyable.
I'd love to hear from you. What keeps you motivated and drawn towards fitness? Do you also see it as a path to holistic wellness?
