A class teacher stands before her students, holding a crisp $100 bill. She asks, “Put your hands up if you want this money.” Every hand in the room shoots up eagerly. The teacher then says, “I am going to give this money to someone here, but first, let me do this…”
She crumples the bill, then asks, “Who still wants it?” The hands remain raised. Next, she drops the bill on the floor, stomps on it, and grinds it into the ground. She picks it up, now dirty and creased, and asks again, “How about now?” Again, the hands stay up.
“Class, I hope you see the lesson here,” she continues. “It didn’t matter what I did to this money; you still wanted it because its value stayed the same. Even with its creases and dirtiness, it’s still worth $100.” She adds, “It’s the same with us. There will be times when you’re dropped, bruised, and muddied. Yet no matter what happens, you never lose your value.”
Embracing Our Inherent Worth
Our value, much like that $100 bill, is intrinsic. It’s not diminished by the hardships we face or the mistakes we make. It’s constant and deserving of recognition and care.
In my journey as a personal trainer and health coach, I've seen firsthand how powerful this realization can be. That’s why I emphasize the importance of mindset and positive self-talk in my coaching. I also encourage my clients to reflect on their strengths and celebrate their victories, no matter how small.
Celebrating Growth
No matter how tiny, every step forward is a testament to your resilience and commitment to yourself. Remember, self-improvement is not about fixing something that’s broken. It’s about expanding the incredible potential that’s already within you.
So, as you progress in your fitness journey—or any journey—keep this lesson close to your heart. Your value is untouchable. Embrace the growth, celebrate the challenges, and recognize that you are already enough. And always, always strive for more, not because you need to be fixed, but because you are capable of so much more than you ever imagined.
Let's build a healthier, happier world, one person at a time—starting with the unbreakable belief in our worth.
