Have you ever felt stuck when trying to set or achieve your goals? Like you’re spinning your wheels but not gaining traction? Trust me, I’ve been there too. Over the years, through my personal fitness journey, coaching clients, and endless trial and error, I’ve learned a lot about what makes goals stick. And here’s the thing: it’s not just about setting a goal. It’s about setting the right goals.
If you’re ready to create meaningful change, keep reading. I’m breaking down a game-changing strategy: connecting your goals to your values.
Why Do Some Goals Fall Flat?
The secret lies in your values. Goals that align with what truly matters to you—the things that light you up and give your life meaning are the ones that stick. When your goals reflect your core values, they’re no longer just boxes to check—they’re steps toward living the life you truly want.
How to Align Goals With Your Values
Start by asking yourself:
• What are my top values? (Think: health, family, growth, freedom, kindness, or creativity.)
• Why do these values matter to me?
• How can I connect my goals to these values?
Here’s an example: Let’s say family is one of your top values. Instead of setting a generic goal like, “lose 10 pounds”. Try reframing it to, “I want to lose 10 pounds so I can have the energy to play with my son after work.” See the difference? That simple shift ties your goal to something meaningful, which makes it much more motivating.
Another example: If health is your top value, instead of saying, “I’ll hit the gym three times a week,” you could say, “I’ll hit the gym three times per week, so I can feel strong, confident, and energized to make the most of each day.” Now, your goal is about thriving, not just surviving.
The Power of Values in Action
Goal-setting is about more than just ticking boxes or hitting numbers. It’s about creating a life that aligns with what truly matters to you. When you connect your goals to your values, you’re not just chasing results but pursuing purpose.
So here’s my challenge: Take a few minutes today to reflect on your values. Then, ask yourself how you can connect them to your goals. It might be the missing piece you’ve been looking for.
Remember, the most powerful goals are the ones that reflect who you are and what you stand for. And when your goals align with your values, you’re unstoppable.
